HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 cc805-6
37. Mr. A. Fenner Brockway

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he will confirm the assurances given by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Town and Country Planning during the last two years that the necessary materials will be made available to enable the completion of the drainage scheme at Slough, and that on its conclusion an additional allocation of houses will be made to the borough to compensate for the limitation of building since 1950 necessitated by the absence of drainage.

Mr. H. Macmillan

I agree as to the urgency of both these problems and will do my best to assist.

Mr. Brockway

is the right hon. Gentleman aware that because housing cannot proceed until this drainage system is completed there is the most desperate overcrowding and that in wet weather sewage seeps into the streets and there is danger of the River Thames being polluted? In view of these facts, can he give an assurance that the necessary materials will be forthcoming.

Mr. Macmillan

We will do everything we possibly can.
