HC Deb 13 November 1951 vol 493 c810
46. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Prime Minister if he will take steps to merge or associate Civil Defence organisations with the Home Guard, especially in sparsely populated areas.

The Prime Minister

I am advised that the course suggested would not promote efficiency in either the Civil Defence or the Home Guard organisations. The close concert which already exists between the Army and Civil Defence authorities will. of course, go on.

Sir I. Fraser

Will my right hon. Friend have in mind that, especially in the villages, the man who prevents a parachutist from landing is also the best man to put out the fire and that there are no other men?

The Prime Minister

I was answering on the advice I have so far received, but certainly this matter may be looked into as time and leisure are offered to us.
