HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 cc7-8
12. Mr. Niall Macpherson

asked the Minister of Labour whether, following upon the September review of the occupations of Territorial Army Reserve of Officers and their commitments in the event of an emergency, he will inform those who will not be required for call-up in an emergency of his Department's decision.

Mr. Lee

As at present advised, I am not sure that this would be in the general interest or in the interest of the men concerned, but my right hon. Friend will consider the matter again in September.

Mr. Macpherson

Does not the hon. Gentleman think that the people concerned would be much more ready to devote themselves to training for those jobs which they will have to perform in an emergency if they knew definitely that they were not to be called up?

Mr. Lee

It might mislead them if we were to say definitely that they were not to be called up. I would rather wait until the review which is due in September.
