HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 c31
60. Mr. Crouch

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many forms are sent to the owners of properties for the new rating valuation both before and after a return has been made.

Mr. Gaitskell

None, except the return itself, unless an owner objects to an entry in the draft valuation list, in which case he will be asked to complete a form of objection and, if he wishes to proceed later to appeal, an appeal form.

Mr. Crouch

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that in our area a great number of these forms have been sent out in duplicate? I have in my hand two that were sent to me three weeks after I had completed and returned the original form. Is this an attempt to see whether a mistake was made in filling up the first form?

Mr. Gaitskell

Not so far as I am aware, but perhaps the hon. Gentleman would let me have the particulars.
