HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 cc2-3
8. Mr. Black

asked the Minister of Works why his licensing officers are refusing to grant licences for the installation of additional lavatory accommodation in licensed premises in cases in which the licensing justices are pressing the licensees to increase the lavatory accommodation available for their customers.

Mr. G. Brown

While the licensing officers try to allow the most pressing applications, present restrictions make it impossible to allow all the improvements recommended by the licensing justices.

Mr. Black

Is not the Minister aware that there are cases of licensed houses where there is no separate ladies' accommodation of any kind and where licences are being refused?

Mr. Brown

Yes, Sir. It is a question of doing what we can. It would be very wrong to use more of the available money and materials for this particular class of work than we are now doing.
