HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 cc39-40
Mr. Eden

May I ask the Leader of the House whether he has any change to announce in next week's Business.

Mr. Ede

Yes, Sir. We hope that it will be agreeable to the House to pass the British North America Bill through all its stages at first Order tomorrow (Wednesday) before proceeding with the other Business already announced for consideration on that day.

The Canadian Federal Parliament has at present no power to legislate about old age pensions. The Canadian Federal and Provincial authorities all wish that the Federal Parliament should have this power concurrently with the Provincial Parliaments. The Canadian Government have accordingly asked for an amendment of the British North America Act, 1867.

The Bill was presented on the day the House adjourned for the Whitsun Recess and has been made available to Members.
