HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c2077
10. Mr. Profumo

asked the Minister of National Insurance what progress is being made with the examination of the operation of Section 39 of the National Insurance Industrial Injuries Act, 1946; and whether she will make a statement.

Dr. Summerskill

The hon. Member is no doubt referring to the limitation of the right of appeal against provisional assessments. Progress has been made, but I am not yet in a position to make a statement. I would remind the hon. Member that any change would require legislation.

Mr. Profumo

Can the Minister tell the House the nature of the representations which were made to her by the Trades Union Congress in respect of the present operation of this Section of the Act?

Dr. Summerskill

Representations were made along the lines the hon. Gentleman has suggested.
