HC Deb 15 March 1951 vol 485 c1745
29. Wing Commander Bullus

asked the Minister of Health if he is satisfied with the recorded success in the use of cortisone; and if he will now sponsor its more widespread use in this country.

Mr. Marquand

The use of this scarce drug is still under investigation. Its wider use must depend upon greater knowledge of its effects and upon availability of supplies. I hope shortly to provide a little more for use in hospitals.

Wing Commander Bullus

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware of the recent experiments in this country which have confirmed the successes already obtained in the United States?

Mr. Marquand

I understand that the Medical Research Council is still continuing this research, and advises that uncontrolled use at present is not desirable in view of the risk of untoward effects.
