§ 28. Mr. John E. Haireasked the Secretary of State for War what is the basis of recruitment for the War Graves Commission: and how many recruits have been added to headquarters staff since 1948.
§ Mr. M. StewartThe Imperial War Graves Commission obtain staff through the Ministry of Labour and National Service, through appointments boards and by advertisements in the Press. Since 1st April, 1948, the number of staff at the Commission's headquarters has risen from 302 to 318.
§ Mr. HaireWould my hon. Friend consider introducing a competitive examination as in other branches of the Civil Service, to eliminate any possible charge of nepotism or jobs for the old school boys?
§ Mr. StewartI have no reason to believe that there is any justification for that statement.
