asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of children born in His Majesty's prisons and Borstal institutions in England and Wales during the past five years; and the average figures of maternal and infant mortality for such births.

During the five years ended 31st December, 1950, 232 live births occurred in His Majesty's prisons and Borstal institutions in England and Wales. None of the mothers, but five of the infants, died. There were eight still births.
