HC Deb 05 March 1951 vol 485 cc13-4
22. Lord Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Minister of Transport when the new jetty at Kyle of Lochalsh will be completed.

Mr. Barnes

No acceptable tenders as regards either cost or time of completion were received for the construction of a new slipway according to the original plans. In order to secure the improvement of the ferry service this summer it was accordingly found necessary to prepare an amended scheme for an extension of the existing slipway to enable the ferry to be used at low tide. Every effort will be made to have the extension usable for Skye week. Further work will be done later to make the slipway more convenient.

Lord Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton

Is the Minister aware that a Railway Executive official recently stated in a letter that this slipway would be completed this spring, and that if he is to get it ready by this summer he will have to get a move on?

Sir T. Moore

That is too much to expect.
