§ The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. Douglas Jay)Gross fixed investment in industry in Great Britain in 1949 was approximately £21 per head of the total population. Estimates for 1950 will appear in the next Economic Survey. No reliable estimates are available for prewar years, but in real terms investment in 1949 and 1950 was probably higher than in 1939.
