HC Deb 25 June 1951 vol 489 c984
28. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Food if his attention has been called to the high rates at present charged for the carriage of empty food and produce containers; and if he will negotiate with the Road Transport Executive to secure a reduction of these charges.

Mr. Webb

No, Sir. I have received no such complaints. In any event these charges are not my responsibility and are matters for negotiation between the carriers and traders concerned.

Sir W. Smithers

Is not the Minister aware of the old saying, "The servant when he reigneth throws the blame on someone else?" Is not this a typical example of the cumulative effect when two nationalised industries try to compete one against another?
