§ 37. Lieut.-Colonel Liptonasked the Minister of Transport whether he will release for other purposes the inadequately-used car parks for visitors to the South Bank Exhibition.
§ Mr. BarnesLess use than was anticipated has so far been made of the car parks provided in connection with the Festival, and after discussion between the London County Council, the Metropolitan Police and my Department, it has been decided to close some of them, at any rate for the time being. The use of the parks may increase during the holiday months.
§ Lieut.-Colonel LiptonWould it not be a useful alternative to allow some of these car parks to be used as playgrounds during the holiday months? Alternatively. would it not help to meet some of the outlay if the parking fee of 2s. were reduced and coaches were allowed to park there, rather than have to go to Clapham Common?
