HC Deb 13 June 1951 vol 488 cc2290-1
26. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the stocks of D.D.T. in Cyprus are adequate; and what is the present progress of malaria control schemes in this Colony.

Mr. J. Griffiths

I have no information on the present stocks of D.D.T. in Cyprus, but I have been given no reason to suppose that they are inadequate. With regard to the second part of the Question, the anopheles eradication scheme was successfully completed in January, 1950. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of Cyprus's last Annual Medical Report, which will give him further details.

Mr. Sorensen

Would my right hon. Friend make further inquiries in this matter because stocks of D.D.T. are becoming very short in Cyprus, and, obviously, that being so, there are the very gravest possibilities for the future?

Mr. Griffiths

My information is that the stocks are not inadequate. We are proud of the big job we have done in Cyprus in this field, and we are very anxious that it should be continued.
