HC Deb 11 June 1951 vol 488 c1648
23. Sir Hugh Lucas-Tooth

asked the Attorney-General whether he will appoint a committee to consider the question of the responsibility of directors and other principal officers of corporate bodies for offences committed by such bodies and to make recommendations regarding the procedure to be followed by the courts in relation to the prosecution of such bodies and persons in this connection.

The Attorney-General (Sir Frank Soskice)

No, Sir. I am not aware that the existing law on this subject operates unfairly or causes any special difficulty in practice. However, I shall be very pleased to consider any particular point that the hon. Baronet has in mind.

Sir H. Lucas-Tooth

Is the right hon. and learned Gentleman aware that this matter is dealt with in a different way in four different Bills now before Parliament, and does not he think that that is some reason for putting order into the matter?

The Attorney-General

No, Sir, the appropriate provision in each Bill depends on the nature of the Bill, and these Bills differ.
