§ 35. Mr. Ian Winterbottomasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will approach the United States authorities to ensure that the results of tests being made at Eniwetok to ascertain the effects of atomic blast on structures and materials of various kinds will be made available to the civil defence authorities in this country.
§ Mr. de FreitasI do not think it is necessary to make a specific approach on this matter. I am confident that the close relations which have always existed 1212 between those concerned with Civil Defence in the United States and this country will ensure that the practical lessons to be derived from these tests in so far as they concern measures of Civil Defence will be made available to us.
§ Mr. WinterbottomMay I assume from that reply that the information will be available? If so, will it be made available to the Members of the House for the purpose of study?
§ Mr. de FreitasI should like to consider the second part of that question. As to the first part, the practical lessons will be made available.
