§ 3. Mr. F. Macleanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how long negotiations have now been in progress between His Majesty's Government and the Chinese Government for the establishment of full diplomatic relations; and what progress has been made.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonThe position remains as stated in the answer given to the hon. Member on 7th February. Full diplomatic relations have not yet been established.
§ Mr. MacleanIs it still the policy of His Majesty's Government to endeavour to secure the admission of the Chinese Communist Government to the Security Council and also to secure the transfer to them of Formosa?
§ Mr. MorrisonWe still take the view that the Chinese People's Government should be admitted to the United Nations but, as the hon. Member will have observed, we have taken the view that in existing conditions there is not much point in voting on it at the present time. Therefore, the Trusteeship Council, yesterday I think, postponed the issue.
