HC Deb 26 July 1951 vol 491 cc634-5
34. Sir H. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if be will publish the terms of the exemption granted to the London Transport Executive which authorised the parking of omnibuses in Tothill Street on 11th July.

Mr. Ede

The authority granted to the London Transport Executive on this occasion was for five coaches to take up at 10.30 a.m., eight at noon, seven at 12.30 p.m. and eight at 1 p.m. Owing to a delay in the arrival of members of the conference who were due to be taken up at noon, some overlap of vehicles occurred between the noon and 12.30 p.m. groups, but otherwise little difficulty arose.

Sir H. Williams

Having regard to the fact that these omnibuses caused a great deal more congestion in Tothill Street on that occasion than did my small car on another day, for which I was fined at Bow Street, is it not high time that this nonsense was stopped?
