HC Deb 26 July 1951 vol 491 c634
27. Mr. Mulley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made towards the implementation of the recommendations of the Gowers Committee on the Health, Safety and Welfare of Office Workers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ede

Substantial progress has been made in considering the Committee's recommendations on this subject, and I hope to be able to begin discussion with the interests concerned by the end of the year.

Mr. Mulley

While I appreciate my right hon. Friend's difficulties in preparing legislation in this field, may I ask if he realises that it is two years since the Committee reported, and that the patience of these people is becoming exhausted? Can he not give us an assurance that he will introduce legislation early in the next Session?

Mr. Ede

I am pressing on with it as fast as I can.
