HC Deb 26 July 1951 vol 491 cc632-3
43. Rev. L. Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether arrangements are being made for men and women in the Auxiliary Fire Service to take part in fire-fighting exercises outside their home districts.

Mr. de Freitas

The fire authorities are responsible for training the Auxiliary Fire Service and one or two of them have held exercises designed to train men and women in the A.F.S. in reinforcing moves. Last Sunday my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary attended an exercise in Portsmouth Dockyard which had been arranged by the London, West Sussex and Portsmouth authorities with the cooperation of the Admiralty, and in which 120 men and women of the London Auxiliary Fire Service took part.
