HC Deb 25 July 1951 vol 491 c461
38. Mr. Braine

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will now state what steps he has taken to discuss with the various Governments concerned the re-forming of the West Indies Regiment.

The Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies (Mr. Cook)

I am unable at present to add to what I said on the subject during the debate on the West Indies on 11th July.

Mr. Braine

Since the revival of this Regiment, which served with great distinction in the past, will be generally approved of in the West Indies, and will make a substantial contribution to Commonwealth defence, can the Under-Secretary tell us what are the reasons for the continued delay in getting a decision in this matter?

Mr. Cook

Because local governments have to be consulted in the matter.
