HC Deb 25 July 1951 vol 491 cc458-9
36. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Lord Privy Seal how the takings of the South Bank Festival Exhibition compare with the outgoings to date.

Mr. Stokes

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply I gave to the hon. and gallant Member for Norfolk, Central (Brigadier Medlicott) yesterday.

Brigadier Clarke

Would the right hon. Gentleman say that the takings have come up to his planned expectations?

Mr. Stokes

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Langford-Holt

Would the right hon. Gentleman tell the House, for the benefit of those who have not seen that reply, whether the South Bank Exhibition is making a week-by-week profit or loss?

Mr. Stokes

Roughly, income was £800,000 for the period and maintenance expenses about £250,000.

37. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Lord Privy Seal how the takings of the Festival Gardens and Funfair compare with the outgoings to date.

Mr. Stokes

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Southend, East (Mr. McAdden) on 17th July. I would, however, add that so far the weekly balance has been very substantially on the right side.
