§ 33. Lieut. -Colonel Liptonasked the Attorney-General by what method advisory committees are appointed to recommend suitable persons as justices of the peace.
§ The Attorney-GeneralAdvisory committees are appointed by, and at the discretion of, my noble and learned Friend the Lord Chancellor in all parts of the country, with the exception of the County Palatine of Lancaster. In the latter area. appointments are made by my noble Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy. In selecting persons to serve on advisory Committees, my noble Friends endeavour to follow the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Justices of the Peace of 1946, as far as they consider it to be practicable to do so.
§ Lieut. -Colonel LiptonIs my right hon. and learned Friend aware that there is still some dissatisfaction in the way in which the present procedure operates, and can he say whether one recommendation of the Royal Commission—namely, that the names and addresses of the secretaries of the advisory committees should be published—has been put into effect?
