§ 9. Mr. Braineasked the Secretary of State for War whether any steps have now been taken to re-form the West Indies Regiment.
§ Mr. WyattMy right hon. Friend is in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies on this subject.
§ Mr. BraineWill the hon. Gentleman bear in mind that informed opinion in the British West Indies is in favour of reforming this volunteer regiment which performed great service in World War I? Will he also bear in mind that its reformation would do much to encourage regional consciousness and pride in the West Indies and form a valuable addition to the strength of the British Commonwealth?
§ Mr. WyattI fully appreciate what the hon. Member has said. I am sure he also understands that many interests have to be considered in this matter. I can assure him that good progress is being made.
