§ 52. Mr. Edelmanasked the Minister of Defence what form of censorship is exercised over the reports of war correspondents from Korea.
§ Mr. StracheyI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Defence gave yesterday to my hon. Friend the Member for Maldon (Mr. Driberg) and my hon. Friend the Member for Rossendale (Mr. Anthony Greenwood).
§ Mr. EdelmanWhile fully recognising the need for censorship on security grounds, is it not the case that the present censorship in Korea is far more stringent and comprehensive than a comparable form of censorship during the Second World War? Will my right hon. Friend consult with the Supreme Commander to modify this censorship and enable the present trickle of news to become normal?
§ Mr. StracheyWe are considering these matters, but I think that the degree of censorship to be exercised must be the responsibility of the United Nations authorities on the spot.
