§ 14. Sir Herbert Williamsasked the Secretary of State for War what is the present divisional strength of the British Army.
§ Mr. StracheyI would refer the hon. Member to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 12th September last.
§ Sir H. WilliamsMy Question relates to now and not to the situation last September, so may I have an answer with regard to the present situation?
§ Mr. StracheyIf the hon. Member will look at the Prime Minister's statement, he will see that it relates to the aim of the present rearmament programme, and for security reasons I cannot go further than that.
§ Sir H. WilliamsAs I understand that security reasons did not make it impossible to say a few months ago that it was the equivalent of six and a half divisions, why cannot we be told now whether there is any change?
§ Mr. StracheyThe Prime Minister said that we were to have 10 Regular divisions and 12 Territorial divisions.
