HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 cc1732-3
26. Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

asked the Minister of Food why he is allowing 4s. in the pound rebate in respect of meat for consumption on board ship supplied through shipping butchers.

Mr. Webb

It has previously been my Department's practice to charge to shipping butchers the wholesale prices paid by general butchers (including the appropriate surcharges and rebates). I am, however, now considering the elimination of surcharges and rebates for shipping butchers.

Mr. Thornton-Kemsley

When the Minister is considering this subject, as he says he is, will he bear in mind that a great many of these shipping butchers work on a cost-plus basis, and that the benefit of any rebate does not go to them, but to the ship owners, who, although they may desire it, do not need it in this particular case?
