HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 cc1747-8
Mr. Glenvil Hall

On a point of order. May I have your guidance, Mr. Speaker? There is on the Order Paper a Question, No. 67, which has not been reached, in the name of the hon. Member for Monmouth (Mr. P. Thorneycroft). It deals with a firm which is in my constituency. There is a general understanding in the House that one Member does not encroach on the area of another. [HON. MEMBERS: "No."] The hon. Gentleman has been long enough in this House to know of that rule; but I do not wish to raise that point with you now. I understand that this Question was sent to Lord Woolton, who apparently, in turn, asked the hon. Gentleman to put it down. I would like to know from you whether it is in order for a member of another place to get a Member of this House to put down a Question of that kind.

Mr. Speaker

That is not a point of order. An hon. Member is entitled to put down any Question he likes.

Mr. Peter Thorneycroft

May I say, Mr. Speaker, that I intended no discourtesy to the right hon. Gentleman? If I were to write to other hon. Members every time people complained to me about transport matters in their constituencies I should require a special staff.

Mr. Hall

This Question was on the Order Paper last week, and had been taken off. The hon. Gentleman had ample, time to speak to me about it.

Mr. Speaker

It is not a matter for me.
