HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 cc1725-6
11. Mr. H. Fraser

asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the reduced meat ration, he will now arrange for priority eggs to be available to children between the age of six months and five years, instead of between six months and two years as at present.

Mr. Webb

The ordinary allocation of eggs will be as high as, or higher than, the priority rate for several months ahead. I hope that this will meet the hon. Member's difficulty.

Mr. Fraser

Can the Minister give an assurance to the House that for next winter—if he should still be on the Treasury Bench, though he probably will not —these children will have priority eggs and an increased cheese ration?

Mr. Webb

Cheese is another matter, and, of course, winter is a long time ahead. We must move with great care. The priority allocation of eggs for children between six months and two years is three per week. We hope that the average allocation for other consumers will reach this level during the week commencing 26th February, and will carry on for a quite considerable number of weeks.
