§ 9 and 10. Mr. Errollasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (1) how a saving of £700.000 has been made in the Short Term Aid to Burma, Loan, as shown in sub-head N of the Foreign Office Supplementary Estimate, 1951:
(2) how a saving of £878,110 has been made in the compensation payment to the Burmah Oil Company as shown in sub-head M of the Foreign Office Supplementary Estimate, 1951.
§ Mr. Ernest DaviesNo payment at all on account of these services is expected during the current financial year. Part of the anticipated savings on these services is, therefore, included in the Supplementary Estimates, in order to reduce the 1268 net sum payable in respect of this Estimate to £10. Parliament will be requested to re-vote in the 1951–52 Estimates the full amounts provided in the original Estimates.
§ Mr. ErrollWill the full original sum ultimately be available to the Burma Government and the Burmah Oil Company respectively?
§ Mr. DaviesYes, Sir: that is so.
