18. Lieut.-Commander Clark Hutchisonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the actuarial inquiry into the teachers' superannuation scheme has now been completed; and if he will make a statement on the possibility of introducing a scheme to provide pensions for the widows of teachers.
The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. McNeil)I am informed that the report on the inquiry is nearing completion. I have nothing to add to the answer given to the hon. Member on 20th June, 1950, regarding pensions for the widows of teachers.
Lieut.-Commander HutchisonIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that on 20th June last, the hon. Lady the Joint Under-Secretary said that the report would be ready by the end of the year? Can he say when he is likely to be able to say anything further on this matter?
Mr. McNeilMy hon. Friend is dependent on outside activities for this information. I would not like to add to what I have said, but I do not think the report will be unduly delayed.
