asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will bring into consultation at the appropriate time the two organisations representing the officers and men of the Fire Service when making plans for the nationalisation of the Fire Service in the event of war.

I will consider this at the right time, but I do not contemplate that it will be necessary to consult these organisations on any matters except conditions of service. A considerable part of the plans must of course be treated as secret.
