HC Deb 06 December 1951 vol 494 c2548
38. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has now reviewed the expenditure on the Fire Service College; and if he will make a statement.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Yes, Sir. The College has settled down in its new premises at Wotton, and I hope that next year its value will be increased by the provision of courses in emergency fire fighting for senior officers as part of the plans for the re-establishment of the National Fire Service in the event of war. As a result of a reduction of expenditure and an increase of the number of students, the College is now running at a cost per student week which is about half the corresponding cost in 1948.
