HC Deb 05 December 1951 vol 494 c2388

The following Question stood upon the Order Paper:

50. Mr. WYATT

—TO ask the Minister of Defence whether, before coming to a decision as to the future of the.280 rifle, he will satisfy himself that there is a better rifle available or in process of design which could be issued to British troops before the.280 rifle could be manufactured in large quantities.

Mr. Wyatt

On a point of order. The Prime Minister has said that he will make a statement on the.280 rifle before the Christmas Recess. I have a Question No. 50 on the Order Paper giving an opportunity and, unless the Prime Minister makes a statement today, he will not be able to do so before the Christmas Recess.

The Prime Minister

On that point of order, may I say that I propose to deal with this matter, among others, tomorrow in my speech?
