§ 17. Mr. James McInnesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent shortage of materials is holding up the housing programme in the City of Glasgow.
§ Mr. J. StuartI am informed by the Corporation that delays have resulted from shortages of bricks, cement, plasterboard and steel but that it is impossible to estimate their precise effect.
§ Mr. McInnesIf such shortages exist for a somewhat restricted programme, can the right hon. Gentleman indicate where he intends to get the materials for an augmented programme such as the Government propose?
§ Mr. StuartWe hope to save in other directions. As the hon. Member knows, there is a debate on housing to-day, and perhaps we could reserve further discussion.
§ Mr. McInnesAm I to conclude from those observations that the Government will reveal today in the course of the debate from where they will get the materials essential for these 300,000 houses?
§ Mr. StuartNo doubt that will come out in the course of the debate.
