§ 42. Miss Burtonasked the Minister of Food if he will accept the suggestion of the trade that representatives should discuss with him the problem of distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables.
§ The Minister of Food (Major Lloyd George)I am always ready to consider constructive suggestions on such matters.
§ Miss BurtonWould it be possible to get a definite answer from the Ministry? There is a great deal of dissatisfaction about this matter. May I ask the right hon. Gentleman if he would agree to discuss, and publish the results of that discussion, with the trade upon the distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables?
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeI am prepared to consider anything upon this important and difficult matter. It is only the Retailers Federation which has issued a pamphlet on the matter, which I think referred to a Commission. There is no doubt of what they have in mind, and I 2015 would welcome any suggestion put forward which would lead to a solution of the problem.
§ Miss BurtonWould the right hon. Gentleman consider appointing a Commission to inquire into this matter?
§ Major Lloyd GeorgeI will consider it.
§ Mr. KeelingDoes the Minister recall that the late Government, on the eve of the Election, produced a scheme without any consultation with the trade?
