HC Deb 26 April 1951 vol 487 c547
7. Mr. Ian Winterbottom

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons of Polish nationality who transferred to the Polish Resettlement Corps have applied for and obtained British nationality.

Mr. Ede

Up to 31st March, 7,978 Poles who passed through the Polish Resettlement Corps had applied for naturalistion and 4,850 had been granted certificates.

Mr. Winterbottom

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this represents only about 7 per cent. of the total passing through the Polish Resettlement Corps? Does he realise that there is dissatisfaction because these men are exempt from the military service applicable to Z reservists? Will he and his colleagues see that these men undertake the responsibilities of being members of our society as well as the enjoyment of its benefits?

Mr. Ede

Certainly.
