§ 11. Mr. Henderson Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to receive the Report of the Catto Committee on the financial relations between Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.
§ Miss HerbisonI am not yet able to say when the Report will be ready.
§ Mr. StewartWhile we all wish this Committee to do its job properly, is it not taking an inordinately long time to produce the facts to justify a possible further inquiry?
§ Miss HerbisonThe Committee was appointed in July, 1950. It has met seven times since. A certain number of that Committee have spent a considerable time taking evidence. I am sure the hon. Gentleman realises that this is not something that can be decided in a day, and that a great deal of evidence has to be taken.
