asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department by what authority and for what purpose a visa was granted to the Minister of Education of the Chinese Nationalist Government of Formosa to enter this country.

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to Dr. Lih-Wu Han, who was formerly Minister of Education in the Chinese Nationalist Government. Dr. Han was granted a visa to enable him to pay a private visit to friends in this country, on his way to the United States of America.

Was it possibly to allow him to attend a Socialist summer school here?
