HC Deb 12 April 1951 vol 486 c1167
11. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that travelling salesmen with motor cars, vans and travelling shops, who do a considerable trade in the country, are not required to complete the Census of Distribution; and what steps he is taking to obtain the relevant information regarding this substantial section of the trade.

Mr. Rhodes

The Census of Distribution covers all kinds of retail distribution, including travelling salesmen with motor cars, vans and travelling shops. Traders of these kinds known to the Census Office have been sent forms for completion, and any who have been missed have been asked, through Press announcements, to apply to the Census of Distribution Office at Osterley for forms.

Mr. Stewart

Will the hon. Gentleman consider the case of at least two persons in the limited area of the kingdom of East Fife who have no knowledge of this matter at all?

Mr. Rhodes

Perhaps the hon. Member will help us by bringing this knowledge to them.
