HC Deb 05 April 1951 vol 486 c490
Mr. McNeil

I beg to move, in page 11, line 22, to leave out from "than," to end of line 24, and to insert: a vehicle used for the purposes of a passenger transport service within the meaning of the Transport Act, 1947. By this Amendment we have attempted to secure a definition of a vehicle which I think almost completely meets the wishes of the House. We thought it was a case of making sure that the definition was sufficiently wide to permit proceedings against vehicles known to be employed for this purpose. On the other hand, we did not want vehicles travelling in the ordinary way of business or for pleasure, or public service vehicles to be incommoded. I hope that hon. Members will find this suitable.

Lord Dunglass (Lanark)

As the right hon. Gentleman knows my right hon. and hon. Friends were rather concerned about this matter and I should like to thank him for the consideration he has given to it, and the way he has met our point.

Amendment agreed to.
