§ 52. Mr. Ian Harveyasked the Minister of Defence whether steps are being taken to provide facilities whereby Western Union forces can train together so that they may evolve a common military doctrine.
§ Mr. ShinwellYes, Sir. A number of combined exercises have already been held, and more will be held in future. In addition, there are arrangements for the attachment of individual officers to the forces of other Western Union countries, and training pamphlets are exchanged so that common doctrines are being evolved.
§ Mr. HarveyWould the right hon. Gentleman give consideration to establishing a central training organisation in Germany, or in some other convenient place?
§ Mr. ShinwellI take note of the suggestion.
§ Mr. DraysonWhat progress has been made towards standardisation of equipment?
§ Mr. ShinwellThat seems to me to be another question.
Mr. VaneAre any of these attachments to foreign armies made up of Territorial officers or are they all of Regular officers?
§ Mr. ShinwellI should have to inquire into that.
