HC Deb 18 October 1950 vol 478 cc2020-1
4. Mr. John Morrison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the total number of vehicles maintained out of public funds for the use of British representatives abroad as compared with 1939.

Mr. Bevin

Conditions now are very different from those in 1939. There has, for instance, been a threefold increase in the members of our staffs overseas. It is not, therefore, possible to make a true comparison. There are two categories of vehicles: those for His Majesty's Diplomatic Missions and those for other Missions. Seven hundred and six vehicles are administered by the Foreign Office and 202 by other Departments of His Majesty's Government.
