HC Deb 27 November 1950 vol 481 c774
40. Colonel.J. R. H. Hutchison

asked the Minister of Transport what is the expenditure contemplated this year on the highway between Glasgow and Stirling near Cumbernauld.

Mr. Barnes

Apart from day-to-day maintenance, about £28,000 will be expended during the current financial year on strengthening the haunches and resurfacing a length of 2¾ miles near Cumbernauld.

Colonel Hutchison

Is the Minister aware that it appears that this highway is being taken up and restored to practically the same condition that it was in before, without any important widening of a main thoroughfare of that kind? Does the Minister check that expenditure as being really worth incurring?

Mr. Barnes

Certainly. My divisional road engineers watch work of this description.
