HC Deb 27 November 1950 vol 481 c789
56. Mr. W. Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is yet able to make any further statement regarding a Japanese peace treaty; and if he is ensuring that the views of the Commonwealth are being fully taken into consideration.

Mr. Ernest Davies

I am unable to make any further statement regarding a Japanese peace treaty but I can assure the hon. Member that the views of the Commonwealth are being fully taken into consideration.

Mr. Fletcher

Is it not about time that some progress were made towards the conclusion of a Japanese peace treaty, in view of the very important things that hang upon it?

Mr. Davies

His Majesty's Government are most anxious that progress should be made towards the conclusion of a Japanese peace treaty, but the matter does not rest in our hands entirely.
