HC Deb 27 November 1950 vol 481 c768
Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Food whether he will appoint a committee of housewives to advise him on food problems in his capacity as Minister of Food.

Mr. F. Willey

My right hon. Friend is already in close touch with a number of women's organisations and many individual housewives who advise him on food problems, and he does not think that there will be any purpose in appointing the further committee which the hon. Member suggests.

Mr. Turton

Is it not better to get a non-party committee to advise the Minister on his duties, rather than to allow partisan organisations to advise him?

Mr. Willey

My right hon. Friend is advised, among others, by the Women's Institute, the W.V.S. and the Standing Joint Committee of the Working Women's Organisation. I think it unfortunate that he should describe them as partisan.
