§ 10. Mrs. Middletonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty on what date he anticipates that naval personnel now due for pension, but whose services have been retained owing to the present emergency, will be released.
§ Mr. CallaghanI fully sympathise with the natural wish of those retained or recalled to know for how long their services will be wanted, and whilst I cannot give a definite date, it is my noble Friend's intention to make an announcement at the earliest possible moment.
§ Mrs. MiddletonWill my hon. Friend see that the men concerned are themselves given as long notice as possible, because to my certain knowledge men among my own constituents have already lost civilian jobs for which they had contracted before the notice for their retention was made.
§ Mr. CallaghanI fully agree with my hon. Friend, and it is my strong desire that we should give them a definite period as soon as it is possible to do so.
