HC Deb 24 May 1950 vol 475 cc2060-1
49. Mr. Keeling

asked the Minister of Defence what committee is investigating the failure of about half the men and women qualified for the Service vote to register; and what are its terms of reference.

Mr. Shinwell

I assure the hon. Member that this question is being thoroughly investigated. It is not the practice to publish details of Departmental Committees.

Mr. Keeling

May we assume that all the suggestions made in this House on 31st March have been or will be considered, and that the House will be informed of the result of the consideration?

Mr. Shinwell

Of course, every suggestion made will receive every consideration.

Lieut.-Commander Gurney Braithwaite

Is the Minister aware that men arriving home from Malaya for demobilisation are complaining that they had no opportunity of registering their votes, and, while allowing for the difficulties in the area, will he pay attention to that point?

Mr. Shinwell

No doubt the hon. and gallant Gentleman is correct in what he says, but I have no information about it.
