Mr. DugdaleThe deficiency was made good by the appointment of three assistant conservators of forests in September, 1948, January, 1949, and September, 1949, respectively.
§ Mr. SmithersDoes the right hon. Gentleman think that the appointment of three assistant conservators is adequate, in view of the fact that the 1948 Report says that the whole of the work of the 2044 Department was paralysed owing to failure to fill staff vacancies? Will the 1949 Report, when published, disclose a more satisfactory state of affairs?
